The article considers the problem of the identification of the precision of digital elevation models (DEMs), that are often used to assist the decision making in various fields. It is shown on the simple example how the presence of even the small error in DEM can affect the decision taken and why it should be accounted for in risk assesment. The Monte Carlo error simulation was applied to assess the errors of the derivative layer of slopes.
