Data оn natural conditions is crucial for the effective management of land resources and should be included in the land information system database. An analysis of the function of such data as an information basis for land evaluation allows to formulate the set of requirements for the LIS natural conditions database. These include the detailed scale, big spatial scope, and flexibility to comply the demands of different and often unpredictable estimation criteria.

The structure of the land conditions database should be based on landscape ecological methodology. This enables to utilize revealed relations between spatial features and evaluation criteria, avoiding data redundancy and inconsistencies.
