Paradox differences in vertical movements according to different definitions

For estimating features of vertical movements on the territory of Ladoga – Onega region we used data of 1999-2007 GPS measurements, carried out by employees of Institute of physics of the Earth and Pulkovo Astronomic Observatory of Russian Academy of Sciences, and also the last results of I and II Геодезія, картографія і аерофотознімання. Вип. 71. 2009 class geometric leveling, data of water-level measurement and satellite altimetry. In the Northern Ladoga area the abnormal uplift up to 6 mm a year is revealed, although, according to the data of geometrical leveling, rate of vertical movements do not exceed ±2 mm a year. GPS measurements on the nearest IGS points in Finland and Kareliya (Onega region) show uplift rate of 2-6 mm a year that is agreed to postglacial uplift rate. Satellite altimetry data for the same period also show changes of average water level in Ladoga Lake close to an abnormal uplift.
