In this article, I research merely on the case-law of the European Court of Human Rights regarding citizenship, its acquisition, and termination (Abdulaziz, Cabales and Balkandali v. The United Kingdom (1985), Riener v. Bulgaria (2006), Genovese v. Malta (2012), Wagner and J.M.W.L. v. Luxemburg (2007), Stamose v. Bulgaria» (2013), Menneson v. France (2014) і Labassee v. France (2014), Biao v. Denmark (2016), Ramadan v. Malta (2016), Paradiso and Campanelli v. Italy (2017)).

The essence of people’s sovereignty as a legal phenomenon is clarified and its author’s definition for the science of constitutional law is proposed.

In this article I try to analyze the philosophical and legal sources of the concept of citizenship, its essence and legal nature. Specifically, I want to emphasize the ancient chronologic political and historical phase of its evolution, when the concept of citizenship was founded with the precise philosophical and legal interpretation and legislative adoption, which
remains duly till now.
 

The article deals with the aspects of the legal regulation of citizenship. It is determined that the institution of citizenship should be understood as an essential element of legal status. Particular attention is paid to citizenship of minors. The aspects of multiple nationality are examined.
