Analysis of environmental hazard parameters of the workplaces in steel plants in Nigeria

The steel plant’s workplace environmental hazard parameters in Ilorin, Nigeria was evaluated using response surface methodology (RSM). Three environmental parameters (illumination, temperature and noise level) were measured. The data obtained were compared with the Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) standard for the workplace environment.  Based on the preliminary analysis of the workplace environment, five variables (No. of lightings, no. of windows, no. of machines, no. of workers and age of machines) were considered as input parameters.

NUMERICAL ANALYSIS OF THE PROPAGATION OF A DISTURBANCE IN STEEL USING THE ANSYS PROGRAM

The paper presents harmonic analysis for the propagation of a disturbance in a simple compressible elastic structure made of steel (a cubic cube measuring 5×5×5 cm). The impact of initial compression or stretching on the propagation speed of the disorder was assessed. It has been shown that in relation to the reference model, i.e. the model without preliminary interactions, there is a change in the speed of propagation of the disturbance and change of the velocity amplitude.

Experimental and Theoretical Investigations of Anti-Corrosive Properties of Thymol

The inhibition effect of thymol during the early stage of steel corrosion under adsorbed thin electrolyte layers was investigated. Its vapor corrosion inhibition property was evaluated under simulated operational conditions. Electrochemical techniques complemented by FTIR and SEM surface analyses were used to evaluate the composition and characteristics of the layers. The results indicate that thymol can form a protective film on the metal surface, which protects the metal against further corrosion.

DETERMINATION OF WORKABILITY OF ZINC COATINGS IN CONDITIONS OF MECHANICAL STRESSES AND CORROSIVE ENVIRONMENT

For defense the constructions elements from corrosion on the Black Sea shelf are often used organic and inorganic coatings, and as well corrosion-resistant alloys, which makes it possible to use equipment in more aggressive environments, expanding the conditions for their applying. However, the protective properties of anti-corrosion coatings in media in the presence of hydrogen sulfide and the simultaneous action of mechanical stress is not sufficiently studied.

NUMERICAL ANALYSIS OF STEEL FRAME SUBJECTED TO AIR BLAST

The paper focuses on the numerical analysis of steel frame subjected to air blast load. ABAQUS/Explicit was employed to establish 3D finite element model. Two-storey steel frame was discretized with solid elements. Air blast load was generated using CONWEP generator. 3 different weight of TNT was considered.

Вплив модифікованого алюмосилікату на захисні властивості алкідних покриттів

It was established that natural and Ca modified zeolite inhibit steel corrosion in the medium of low acid rain. The Ca-containing zeolite inhibit the steel corrosion in the most effective way. The protective effectiveness of the alkyd coatings filled with zeolites can be placed in the following order:  unmodified < with natural zeolite < with Ca-containing zeolite.  Встановлено, що природний та модифікований кальцієм цеоліти інгібують корозію сталі в середовищі слабкокислих дощових опадів. Найефективніше інгібує корозію сталі Ca-вмісний цеоліт.
