The language quality in newspaper publications is an important and topical problem.

The article analyzes one issue of the Ukrainian national daily newspaper “The Day”. It focuses on the use of the same verb in one publication, paragraph or even one sentence. The article distinguishes some cases of usage in media materials of such verbs as “to play role” “to provide” “to engage in” “to state” “to be sustained” “to be” “to have”, “to carry out”. Their meaning is explained on the basis of reference literature. According to context it notes the use of the verb “to help” instead of “to provide”, “to be” instead of “to play role”, “to be” instead of “to have”, “to organize” instead of “to carry out”, “to be contained” instead of “to be sustained”, “to inform” “to note” “to argue” “to declare” etc. instead of “to state”. The article notes the other cases of misspelling. Given that the main meaning of verb “to engage in” is “to work hard, eagerly”, the use of phrases “to do a good managing” and “to deal with papers” is wrong. It is recommended that the phrases “to be a good managers”, “to be occupied by papers” “to waste time among the papers” should be used instead. And given that the verb “to find something” appears in the contexts when “you need something to find”, it is advisable that the phrases “to be in good relationship (cooperate)” and “to be on a proper height” should be used in place of “to find yourself in goof relationship” and “to find yourself on a proper height”.

The article emphasizes the importance of checking the usage of the words in dictionaries and reference literature, as well as the choice of appropriate synonyms and avoidance of repetitions.
