Decomposition kinetics of hydrogen peroxide in a solution of guaiacol catalyzed by a solution of hexacyanoferrate (ІІ)

 The kinetics of the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide catalyzed by potassium hexacyanoferrate  (ІІ) in the presence of guaiacol has been studied. It has been shown that the reaction rate increases sharply with increasing solution pH from 2 to 7. It is shown that the rate of hydrogen peroxide decomposition catalyzed by potassium hexacyanoferrate (ІІ) in the presence of guaiacol at low pH is close to the rate of the uncatalyzed process and to the reaction rate in the presence of potassium hexacyanoferrate (III). It was found that the study of the oxidation of guaiacol by potassium hexacyanoferrate (III) showed that in alkaline and neutral media potassium hexacyanoferrate (III) in the absence of hydrogen peroxide oxidizes guaiacol within a few minutes, Moreover, in alkaline medium, potassium hexacyanoferrate (III) is almost completely converted to potassium hexacyanoferrate (II), as evidenced by the qualitative reaction with iron (II) and iron (III) ions.
