Selective Removal of Mercury(II) Using Hydrogels Prepared by Gamma Radiation

To selectively remove mercury(II), 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HM) and 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate/acrylamide (HM/ACR) hydrogels were synthesized using radiation. These hydrogels were used in swelling, diffusion, and binding studies. Swelling parameters for HM/ACR−Hg2+ system are higher than those of HM−Hg2+ systems. Binding of Hg2+ has been observed to be C-type for HM and L-type for HM/ACR hydrogels. Binding parameters were calculated using Freundlich, Langmuir and Henry models.

Preparation and Characterization of Molecular Imprinted Polymer for the Selective Recognition of Serotonin

Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) were prepared for highly selective recognition of serotonin. Acrylamide, methacrylic acid and methacrylamide were selected as the monomers for the production of MIPs. Functional monomers were polymerized with ethylene glycol dimethacrylate, 1,4-butanediol diacrylate, and trimethylpropane triacrylate with serotonin (MIP-EGDMA, MIP-BUT and MIP-TMT). Serotonin was removed from MIP by the mixture of methanol/acetic acid (4:1). Non-imprinted polymers (NIPs) were synthesized without serotonin (NIP-EGDMA, NIP-BUT and NIP-TMT).

PURIFICATION OF ACRYLAMIDE FROM POLYMERIZATION INHIBITORS IN THE MANUFACTURE OF HIGH QUALITY FLOCCULANTS BASED ON POLYACRYLAMIDE

Polyacrylamide and its copolymers are widely used as flocculating agents for the separation of industrial suspensions. The formation of high molecular weight polymers depends on the content of various impurities present in the monomer. The article presents the scientific and practical information on the production of acrylamide by sulfuric acid method of hydration of nitrile acrylic acid in the form of an aqueous solution of different concentrations and a more modern heterogeneously catalytic method of hydration of acrylonitrile using as catalysts with variable valence.

Технологічні аспекти одержання акриламіду гетерогенно-каталітичною гідратацією акрилонітрилу

At the present time, the principal method of producing acrylamide on an industrial scale is the acid-catalyzed hydration of acrylonitrile. The great disadvantage of this acid process is the accompanying sulfate pollution and large amount of sulfuric acid wasted. The problems of syntheses of acrylamide by heterogeneous-catalytic hydration of acrylonitrile are investigated in this paper.
