General theoretical legal science is essentially a practical discipline. Therefore, there is no institutional dualism between applied and theoretical jurisprudence in universities, unlike in mathematics or physics. However, a look at the previous history of law shows that there was a period when legal theory was subjected to fundamental research. At that time, arguments from related disciplines, such as philosophy and social sciences, were enthusiastically accepted for the sake of theoretical development of legal methodology. Unfortunately, this golden age of theory is over.

The article deals with the fundamental problem of hermeneutics and the whole study of language as a means of communication - the ability of language to reflect reality.The study begins with an overview of the problem and the authors who dealt with it. This is followed by a detailed review of referential theory as the main and oldest theory in the study of language functions.

The article explores the unity of the system of church canons. The main attention is focused on the problem of the search for spirituality, which are examined in the article in anthropological, ethical and existence aspects.
