Many current problems of the public spaces in cities are connected with ill decisions taken in the past 50-60 years. It is mostly connected with the rapid growth of the importance of cars in the 20th century. More and more cities in 50 through 70 invested vastly in road infrastructure, with a thought that private transport is the sign of lived in, energetic, fast growing city. These road developments often took space of historical parts of cities, not paying attention to tearing of urban tissue or newly formed problems for pedestrians.
