The article deals with the phenomenon of synonymy in the terminology system of gender linguistics. The existence of absolute and relative synonyms is stated, their structural models are presented. It is emphasized that at the present stage of the terminology system development the synonymy plays a positive role, since it allows the search of the most optimal nominations, in particular the specific matching of borrowings, stimulating the creation of its own terminology. Also the terminological variability, which unlike synonymy does not belong to system-forming relations is analyzed

The article traces the phenomena of synonymy and variants in the Ukrainian forestry terminology, reveals the specificity of the terms and the terms variants presentation in “The Russian-Ukrainian dictionary of forestry terms” (1980), distinguishes between synonymous terms and term variants, presents the synonymic rows according to lexico-grammatical, phonetical, word-formative peculiarities, analyzes the synonymic terms and term-variants in the field of forestry.

The design terminology of the Ukrainian language is the organized subsystem of literary language, which is characterized by the well-developed lexical-semantic organization and it represents the system of linguistic terms.

The article continues the cycle of the author’s publications devoted to the studying of the Ukrainian homeopathic terminology. The peculiarities of functioning of the term-synonyms and the structural and semantic features of equivalent terminological units of the researched area are analyzed in this work.
