The editorial policy of the Ukrainian Journal of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science regarding the use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools is based on the EU AI Act (https://www.europarl.europa.eu/topics/en/topic/artificial-intelligence), as well as on statements by COPE, WAME, JAMA Network, and recommendations by ICMJE.
The Editorial Board of the journal is guided by this Declaration when evaluating submitted articles. Compliance with the Declaration is an important component of academic integrity.
The Declaration defines artificial intelligence (AI) as an organized set of information technologies that are capable of creating new content or information that did not exist before. This may include texts, images, data, models, drawings, and other similar materials.
The Editorial Board of the journal acknowledges that the use of AI poses a challenge to the academic community in terms of compliance with professional ethics and academic integrity principles, as well as the protection of intellectual property.
Based on the policy of adhering to these principles, the Editorial Board of the journal declares that the use of AI in writing the text of scientific articles is unacceptable; articles whose text is created using AI are tantamount to plagiarism and are not considered.
The use of AI in creating a scientific article is allowed to perform mechanical processes and routine operations, such as arranging bibliography, compiling lists or tables, automatic coding, etc. If these AI tools are used in the article, this must be indicated in the text with references to the programs used.
Any other use of AI to create a scientific article submitted to the journal is unacceptable.
The procedure for identifying and establishing facts of violation of academic integrity, the procedure for considering the fact of violation of academic integrity, the procedure for submitting an appeal and its consideration, regarding cases of unfair use of AI, is carried out in accordance with the Journal's Procedure for Retracting Published Articles.
