The publication, based on the analysis of current legislation and the opinions of scientists, studies the essence and content of the category of "social danger" in combating criminal offenses against the environment. The conclusion is made that social danger is one of the essential features of the analyzed illegal acts and, at the same time, a socio-criminological prerequisite for their criminalization.

У науковій статті з’ясовано соціальну зумовленість криміналізації суспільно не­безпечних діянь проти довкілля, визначено та досліджено її критерії. На переконання автора, соціальна зумовленість кримінальних правопорушень проти довкілля – це уявлення суспільства про криміналізацію відповідних протиправних діянь у цій сфері на основі ступеня їх суспільної небезпеки, відносної поширеності і типовості, динаміки, можливості впливу на них правовими, зокрема кримінально-правовими засобами, здатності системи кримінальної юстиції протидіяти вказаним деліктам.
