The historical aspects of urban spaces forming in Lviv are considered. The influence factors on the level and specifics of the processes of their transformation are characterized. The general features of the architectural and planning transformation of the spaces in the urban fabric development process are defined. In the late XIX – early XX centuries while integrating gardens and green spaces into residential area spaces the city of Lviv managed to form a complex system of outdoor intra-block and inter-block gardens as well as villa and detached housing areas.In 1870-1890 the urban planning solution of south-western districts of Lviv, in particular, Kastelivka in Novyi Svit area, was launched with the construction of villas and detached houses which appeared to be the first ever attempt in Lviv to arrange a large complex residential area.
