The article states that with the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation to Ukraine more than two and a half years have passed. During this time, law enforcement agencies initiated 127,814 criminal proceedings under various articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. It should be noted that many of them have already been examined by domestic courts and those guilty of criminal offenses have been held criminally liable.

The article provides a generalized analysis of the shortcomings of the functioning of humanitarian diplomatic institutions in the field of protection of the rights and freedoms of prisoners of war.

Annotation. The article is devoted to the study of the norms of international humanitarian law in force in Ukraine regarding prisoners of war and the history of their implementation in the Ukrainian legal field. A thorough analysis of the norms of international humanitarian law and their implementation in national legislation is carried out.

The article examines the legal aspects of the rights of prisoners of war. The attention to international standards in the treatment of this category of persons. Defined entities are entitled to POW status. Highlights the need to improve accountability for violations of human prisoners.
