The article examines the formation of defensive-sacral complexes in the small historical towns of Volyn, focusing on the example of Olyka and drawing on the works of Sviatoslav Terskyi, Bohdan Pryshchepa, Volodymyr Zhovtnianskyi and other regional scholars. The analysis covers the key stages in the development of the Olyka Castle and the Church of the Holy Trinity, their role within the urban structure, and their significance in shaping the Radziwiłł princely residence.

In the article the tendencies of use of natural light in modern buildings of culture and churches are considered. Buildings of culture have always been special objects of experimentation with light. In the historical monumental and chamber sacral buildings, the way of using light almost did not change for centuries.

У статті зроблено спробу підсумувати досвід пошуків та утвердження українських національних атрибутів у сакральній архітектурі Галичини рубежу ХІХ–ХХ ст., в якому ключову роль відіграла творчість архітектора Василя Нагірного. Окреслено основні прийоми, розроблені галицькими архітекторами того часу, для вираження української національної, конфесійної та культурно-цивілізаційної ідентичності.
