Research of the Process of Liquid Phase Selective Oxidation of 4-Aminotoluene with Ozone

According to the results of studying of kinetic relationships and mechanism of the process of catalytic oxidation of 4-aminotoluene with ozone in the liquid phase, the basis of the technology of 4-aminobenzyl alcohol and 4-aminobenzaldehyde have been developed. It has been shown that under the ozonation conditions in the solution of acetic anhydride in the presence of sulfuric acid, manganese(II) acetate or its mixture with potassium bromide it is possible to stop oxidation at the stage of forming 4-aminobenzyl alcohol or aldehyde.

Fields of Ozone Applications

The powerful oxidative action of ozone provides basis for development of novel or improved technologies which are widely used in ecology and industry. Special attention is paid to purification of waste gases, water, and soils.  The disinfection and cleaning of drinking and process water are considered in detail. Applications of ozone in chemical, pharmaceutical and perfume industries, cosmetics, cellulose, paper and sugar industries, flotation, microelectronics, and many others are also examined in the review.

Application of Ozone in Medicine

This review deals with the application of ozone in medicine, its effects on the human organism and its use as a therapeutic approach and sterilizing agent. A particular attention is paid to the therapeutic properties, therapeutic dosage and scope of application. Some mechanisms of the ozone effect at exposure on different organs and systems in human body are also considered. Ozone toxicity is reviewed. The ozone use as a sterilizing agent in the pharmaceutical industry and cosmetics, as well as in the food processing industry is discussed.

Ozone and its Reactions with Diene Rubbers

The reactions of ozone with 1,4-cis-polybutadiene (SKD); Diene 35 NFA (having the following linking of the butadiene units in the rubber macromolecules: 1,4-cis (47%), 1,4-trans (42%), 1,2- (11%); 1,4-cis-polyisoprene (Carom IR 2200), 1,4-trans-polychloroprene (Denka M 40), and 1,4-trans-polyisoprene have been investigated in CCl4 solutions. The changes of the viscosity of the polymer solutions during the ozonolysis have been characterized by the number of chain scissions per molecule of reacted ozone ().

Kinetics and Products of 4-Aminotoluene Oxidization by Ozone in the Liquid Phase

The kinetic regularities and mechanisms of oxidation reactions of 4-aminotoluene and its acylation derivatives by the gases that contain ozone in the glacial acetic acid have been studied. The process of liquid-phase catalytic oxidation of 4-acetaminotoluene by ozone in the presence of transition metal salts and their mixtures with potassium bromide to the corresponding acetaminobenzoic acid has been investigated.
