The article examines the possibility of conducting some types of expert examinations in cases of road accidents before the opening of criminal proceedings, discusses the debatable issues related to the violation of the personal interests of the participants at the stage of opening criminal proceedings and the unjustified delay in making a decision to open criminal proceedings or to refuse them.

The article is devoted to the problem of forensic and procedural analysis of the essence and purposes of the use of forensic examinations during the pre-trial investigation of criminal proceedings. In criminal procedural activity, special knowledge is used in two forms: – in the form of involving specialists during certain investigative (search) actions; – in the form of involving an expert in criminal proceedings for examination.

In the article on the basis of the analysis of normative legal acts the peculiarities of
conducting expert research in criminal proceedings are considered. Taking into account the
commonality of the process under expert investigation, which is conducted in a criminal
proceeding on the initiative of the body of pre-trial investigation, it is necessary to understand
the legal expertise.

The article deals with complex judicial examinations, as a method of establishing
evidence. The concept and content of complex forensic examinations which are used in legal
proceedings are found out. The analysis of separate normative acts, which will establish the
legal basis of the organization for conducting complex expert studies, is carried out. The main
forms of complex examination in criminal proceedings are considered

The problems of preparing forensic experts at higher educational establishments of Ukraine are considered in the article. The analysis of legislation of Ukraine in the field of forensic science activity is made and practice of expert specialists in some foreign countries examined.
