It is proved that the development of the world economy is closely linked to the accelerated pace of scientific and technological progress and intellectual capital. Many countries are on the path of intensifying their economy, choosing a benchmark for the innovative model of economic development. In the article the necessity of innovations and technological changes as the main factor for innovative development is considered. The ideas, theories and concepts that theoretically proved influential nature and value of innovations and technological changes for economic growth are considered.

The analysis of the innovative activity of industrial enterprises in Ukraine and, particularly, in Lviv region in 2011–2012 is presented in the article. The investment activity in the domestic economy according to the International ratings is analyzed. The innovation potential of the Ukrainian industry is estimated. The factors affecting the state of innovative activities that has recently shaped in the Ukrainian economy are determined.

In  this  article  the  authors  attempt  to  highlight  the  main  conceptual  principles  of organizing the modernization process of industrial enterprises, to identify the components of this process, to reveal the content of these components and their materialization in specific projects, to define the possible ways to implement these projects in order to achieve efficient results in high-competitive  economic conditions.
