The issue of impulse development of cities caused by different infrastructural factors is considered.

The article deals with the workshop Urban Density Lab Vienna, that took place in Vienna in 2016 with the participation of students and professors from the Technical University of Vienna (TUV), the Department of Urban Planning (Stӓdtebau), NU "Lviv Polytechnic" (NULP), the Department of Urban Development and Architectural Design, the University of Los Andes In Bogotá (Universidad de los Andes, Bogotá). Workshop as a part of the design course of urban planning is an effective tool of the intensive designing process.

The article substantiates the directions of spatial organization and development of Lviv in the context of formation urban establishment «Greater Lviv» — a systematic complex with unique behaviour. The methodology of developing conceptual documents of spatial organization and urban development in new political and socio-economic conditions is substantiated.

When 193 countries adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the concept of sustainable development received a new wave of attention. The present article argues that divergent views on the concept actually come together to make a system of common values shared by different actors across different intellectual disciples. This, in turn, provides space for experimentation the practical efforts in the area of sustainable development.

The article deals with the process of intensification of the urban territory of a historically formed city. The quarters of residential developments of different periods are analyzed and the indicators of density are determined. The urban transformations of a city canvas, which influence the changes in the density indices and their inter-dependence were investigated.

The article studies the problem of a gradual change in the direction of urban discourse under the influence of critical -re-considering of the heritage in modernists projecting and the range of social and technological initiatives implemented on the verge of 21st century.
