Happy Anniversary!
Professor Yevhen Pavlovych Pistun turned 80 years old
on October 19, 2022.
Yevhen Pavlovych Pistun started working at Lviv Polytechnic University in 1964 as the head of a laboratory of the Department of Thermal and Chemical Processes Automation. He worked as an Assistant Professor, Senior Teacher, Associate Professor of this department, being the Head of the department from 1986 to 2021, and a Vice-Rector for research and production work of the University from 1992 to 2005.
Professor Pistun established at Lviv Polytechnic University a scientific school on automation of technological processes and energy carriers metering, well-known in Ukraine and abroad. Specialists of this school conduct fundamental and applied research, R&D and designing works under the leadership of Professor Pistun, which contributes to the strengthening of the material and technical base of the University. Professor Pistun manages the research laboratory of the University, which carries out research work on the development of state regulatory documents, automated systems for controlling technological processes and energy carriers metering.
Professor Pistun has conducted active work on training and certification of scientific personnel. 6 doctors of technical sciences and 26 candidates of technical sciences have been trained under his guidance. For a long time, Professor Pistun chaired the specialized academic council for the defense of doctoral theses in four scientific majors, which has been operating at Lviv Polytechnic University since 1998.
The long-term scientific activity of Professor Pistun is reflected in numerous scientific works: he has authored 6 monographs, one of which was published abroad, 2 textbooks, more than 400 scientific papers, 59 of which were published abroad, including 31 papers indexed in the Scopus abstract and citation database. The results of Professor Pistun’s inventive activity are reflected in 150 inventors’ certificates and patents, including US, UK, French, German, Swedish, Polish and Japanese patents.
A number of regulatory documents of Ukraine on energy carriers metering, including natural gas, have been developed under the leadership of Professor Pistun. They include a set of intergovernmental standards GOST 8.586.1:2005 – GOST 8.586.5:2005 “Measurement of flow and volume of liquid and gas using standard pressure differential devices” and a set of national standards of Ukraine DSTU 8.586.1:2009 – DSTU 8.586.5:2009 “Measurement of flow and volume of liquid and gas using standard pressure differential devices”.
Professor Pistun is one of the organizers of scientific and publishing activities at the University and other institutions. From 2001 to 2014, Professor Pistun was the Chairman of the editorial board of the Lviv Polytechnic Bulletin "Thermal Engineering. Environmental Engineering. Automation". Since 2015, he has been the Editor-in-Chief of the English-language journal "Energy Engineering and Control Systems", and is a member of the editorial boards of other scientific journals: Metrology and Instrumentation (Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics), Quality Control Methods and Devices (Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas).
Professor Pistun is the initiator of the development and implementation of specialist training process in Ukraine in "Automation and Computer-Integrated Technologies" and is actively working on the creation of regulatory documents (standards, curricula) in this major. He was the Deputy Chairman of the Scientific-Methodological Commission of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine for the same field of study, a member of the Professional Commission of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine for Informatics and Mathematics, a member of the Expert Council on Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Informatics at the State Accreditation Commission of Ukraine, Deputy Chairman of the Expert Council on Computer Science and Technology and National Security of the State Accreditation Commission of Ukraine.
Professor Pistun has been active in establishing international cooperation between universities. In 2004, he was awarded the title of Honorary Professor of Wroclaw University of Technology for significant contribution to the development of cooperation between Lviv Polytechnic National University and Wroclaw University of Technology. Under his leadership, a number of international projects were carried out, in particular, the project under the grant of the US Civilian Research and Development Foundation (CRDF) "Development of a ball mill automation and optimization system" (2012), the results of which were implemented in the existing automation systems of ball drum mills for coal milling at thermal power plants.
As part of the team of authors, Professor Pistun was awarded the State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology for the important scientific results obtained, presented in the work "Improvement of maneuverability, reliability and efficiency of power units with pulverized coal and gas-oil boilers and efficiency of heat supply systems" (2012).
For the results achieved in scientific, educational and inventive activities, Professor Pistun was awarded the Diploma of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine (2004), the Medal for Scientific Achievements (2012), the Medal for Excellence in Education of Ukraine (2009), and Honorary Diploma of the Ministry of Education of Ukraine (1994), Honorary Diploma of the Ministry of Higher Education of the Ukrainian SSR (1982), the USSR Inventor Medal, Silver Medal of the USSR Exhibition of Achievements of National Economy (1987) and diplomas of the first degree of the USSR Exhibition of Achievements of National Economy (1988, 1989), the Medal "For Outstanding Contribution to Lviv Polytechnic National University" (2016). He is elected full member of the Ukrainian Oil and Gas Academy.
By the decision of the Academic Council of Lviv Polytechnic National University dated October 26, 2021, Yevhen Pavlovych Pistun was awarded the title of Honorary Professor of Lviv Polytechnic National University.
