THE OLD AND NEW CASTLES IN THE TOWN OF ROHATYN: DEVELOPMENT OF PLANNING STRUCTURE AND ARCHITECTURE

According to historical documents, the city of Rohatyn was one of the most developed and well-fortified cities in Ukraine during the 16th and 17th centuries. From the city's founding, two structural parts were planned: the town center (sredmiste) and the castle. The development of the town center and its urban structure has been analyzed in several of our previous scholarly works. Despite significant destruction during the First and Second World Wars, the town center has retained its historical layout and part of its architecture.

EVOLUTION OF LVIV FORTIFICATIONS OF THE 14th - 17th CENTURIES AND THEIR LOCALIZATION ON THE MODERN TOPOGRAPHIC BASIS

Complexes of urban fortifications are the basis for analyzing historical development of a settlement and developing urban planning documentation. Therefore, in 2014, as part of the publication “Atlas of Ukrainian Historic Towns, Volume1: Lviv”, the authors of the present article published a scheme-reconstruction of the localization of Lviv's historical defensive buildings based on a modern topographic basis. The format of the Atlas did not provide for a full justification of the work done.

PROBLEMS OF PRESERVATION AND RECONSTRUCTION OF FRAGMENTS AND REMAINS OF HISTORICAL FORTIFICATIONS OF THE BEREZHANY

The aim of the work was to preserve for future generations of researchers and archaeologists the remains of the defensive belt that protected the town in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries from Turkish-Tatar invasions, as at that time Berezhany's fortifications were the most powerful in Opillya.

STRATIN CITY FORTIFICATIONS: CONSTRUCTION DATE, EFFICIENCY, PLANNING AND VOLUME-SPACE CHARACTERISTICS

Based on the results of scientific expeditions and field surveys, the article examines the problems of construction dating, functioning efficiency, localization and identification of structures and fortifications, the planning and spatial structure of the Stratyn city fortifications. The relevance of the research is determined by the fact that, apart from the reports of four scientific expeditions, no full-fledged scientific article was devoted to Stratyn's city fortifications.
