Однією з провідних ознак, базових характеристик сучасних розвинених демократичних держав є наявність фактичного існування та правового забезпечення діяльності опозиції як основній противазі можливій узурпації державної влади. Разом із тим, досвід функціювання опозиції в новітній історії Української держави показує цікаву тенденцію – деформоване розуміння сутності цього політико-правового інституту, зважаючи на повне його заперечення в радянській теорії та практиці державного будівництва.
