THE CURRENT FEATURES OF THE CENTRAL PUBLIC SPACE FUNCTIONING IN THE HISTORICAL CITY, A UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE

Central market squares are a characteristic feature of many cities in Central and Eastern Europe. Historically, it was formed in such a way that the presence of a market square was a sign of the urban status of a territory. They were laid as perfect geometric forms of the spatial centers of life of citizens, and due to the central location, economic and cultural value, were the core of the city, from which the street network was expanded.

RECONSTRUCTIVE TRANSFORMATIONS OF THE SMALL TOWN’S HISTORICAL CENTER (ON THE EXAMPLE OF THE MEMORY SQUARE IN BAR, VINNYTSIA REGION)

The buildings and planing of the historical small towns always feel different qualitative changes in the process of their existence and development. It can be planned or chaotic. The results of these changes can improve the quality of architecture, urban environment and life in it, or, vice versa, can lead to its degradation and destruction. Very often, the disappearance of the historical buildings or the appearance of only one the new building are changing the functionality of the whole square. If it's planned, the changes are expected.

URBANISTIC STRATEGIES OF HISTORICAL CITIES: WORKSHOP REVITALIZATION OF MARKET SQUARE IN LUTSK

The article deals with the conditions and expediency of architectural workshops in the framework of pre-project studies of the territory design, namely public spaces. It is presented on the base of the workshop Revitalization of the Market Square in Lutsk, held in Lutsk, March 21-28, 2017, which was organized within the framework of the COMUS project Urban Strategies of Historic Cities Initiated by the Community of the Tourist Information and Services Center of Lutsk, together with Department of Urban Planing, Lviv Polytechnic National University.
