It is well known that Ukraine has a large number of preserved and semi-ruined historical complexes of palaces, castles, industrial facilities, and other types of complexes that are in a state of stagnation and are not being used effectively. The process of adapting such objects requires a professional approach and a thorough study of the issues, including systematic analysis and the development of architectural solutions. The realities of today require a rethinking of the use of architectural heritage in Ukraine, especially in the context of post-war reconstruction and rehabilitation. Historical complexes that previously served cultural, religious, or defensive functions can become an important resource for creating rehabilitation spaces for military personnel and civilians affected by war. There are dozens of successful examples in global practice of adapting ancient complexes for medical, psychological, and rehabilitation needs. Research on international experience indicates the successful use of the architectural environment for psychological rehabilitation needs, which has a positive impact on physical and psychological recovery. In Ukraine, there are examples of the adaptation of historical buildings and complexes for tourism purposes. The issue of adaptation for rehabilitation functions remains underdeveloped. Existing research mainly focuses on preserving authenticity, restoration, and protecting cultural heritage. The necessity of developing an algorithm for adapting historical complexes to the function of rehabilitation is relevant for our region. Taking into consideration international experience with regard to Ukrainian post-war society may become the basis for adapting historical complexes in the field of rehabilitation.
