The article explores the formation and development of health resorts in Zakarpattia up to 1939. An analysis is conducted of the resort settlements of Kvasy, Nelipyno, and Synyak, which played an important role in shaping the regional resort network. The historical prerequisites for the emergence of resort infrastructure are examined, taking into account the natural and climatic features, particularly the presence of mineral and thermal waters. The architectural features of health facilities are described, reflecting the cultural, social, and economic transformations of Zakarpattia in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The evolution from the use of natural sources of drinking and thermal waters to the establishment of medical institutions, and later full-fledged resort complexes, is traced. The analysis takes into account the impact of administrative and political changes in the region that influenced infrastructure development. Special attention is paid to the study of unique architectural features that combine traditional local construction techniques with elements of European styles.
The resorts of Zakarpattia were mostly of local significance and failed to integrate into the pan-European health system. Nevertheless, the villages of Kvasy, Nelipyno, Synyak, and others left a significant mark on the history of the region’s resort industry. Their contribution to the formation of the cultural landscape of the region is substantial and requires further study.
Systematizing knowledge about the history of resort architecture in Zakarpattia will contribute to the preservation of architectural heritage. It will also support the further development of scientifically grounded approaches to its adaptation in the context of modern recreational and wellness development.
At the same time, this opens up prospects for the creation of new tourist routes, the promotion of local heritage, and the integration of the region into a broader European context.
