Культура та конфлікти завжди переплетені протягом усієї історії людства. Під час збройних протистоянь відбувається навмисне націлювання на об’єкти культурної спадщини. Метою агресора є не тільки окупація земель, але й насадження іншої ідеології, стирання історичної пам’яті. Оскільки культурна спадщина є складовою культурної ідентичності, її також можуть безпосередньо атакувати з ідеологічних причин, як це можемо спостерігати в Україні.
