Professor Pistun is a well-known scientist in Ukraine and abroad. He created a scientific school on industrial automation, technological measurements and energy carriers metering. Yevhen Pistun is a member of the Specialized Academic Board at Lviv Polytechnic National University for the defense of Doctoral and Candidate’s theses in the following specialties: “Automation of control processes”, “Instruments and methods of mechanical quantities measurement”. Six Doctors of Technical Sciences and 26 Candidates of Technical Sciences were trained in these scientific specialties under the supervision of Professor Pistun. He is a full member of the Ukrainian Oil and Gas Academy, Honorary Professor of Lviv Polytechnic National University, Honorary Professor of Wroclaw University of Science and Technology, Editor-in-Chief of scientific journal "Energy Engineering and Control Systems".

- Technical analysis of natural gas metering systems at underground gas storage facilities of DK “Ukrtransgas”;
- Analysis of the prospects for improving the accuracy of natural gas metering and for reducing its unbalances in regional gas distribution companies (“Hmelnytskgas” OJSC, “Zhytomyrgas” OJSC, “Zaporizhgas” OJSC, “Dnipropetrovskgas” OJSC, “Mykolayivgas” OJSC, “Rivnegas” OJSC);
- Improvement of the methodology for determining the reserves of natural gas in the pipeline for its application in UMG “Lvivtransgas” DK “Ukrtransgas” NAK “Naftogas Ukraine”;
- Development of the ball mill automation and optimization system (the system is installed at thermal power plants in Ukraine, Poland and Bulgaria).
