The media market is developing rapidly. Mass media on the Internet are convergent, creating and publishing photo, audio and video content along with text. Therefore, it is not surprising when, for example, newspapers/magazines create video materials, and TV channels create audio productions.

The development of the worldwide Internet network has led to the fact that the mass media are constantly searching for promising platforms for the distribution of their media products and attracting new audiences. Podcasts have become increasingly popular in recent years. And it is surprising. After all, there is a trend that people want to devote less time to long texts and video materials, but at the same time they want to receive more different information, so short journalistic media products are gaining popularity. The audience on the Internet reduces their time to watch videos and read texts. But along with that, the attention and popularity of audio podcasts on media resources and on audio and video platforms is growing every year.

Audio podcasts are a convenient format of audio materials for receiving relevant and interesting information while walking, doing household chores, being in transport, in the gym, etc. They are of various types and genres, on various topics and are free for the audience. Audio podcasts are recorded not only by journalists, but also by bloggers and other members of the Internet.

In the study, the features of audio podcasts were considered, their history was shown, genres and types were characterized. Audio podcasts from high-quality mass media ("Suspilne", "Hromadske", "Liga", "Ukrainian Pravda", "Ukrinform", "Radio Svoboda", "NV" and "Babel") on podcast platforms were analyzed in detail. It was found that online media are increasingly producing audio materials for podcast platforms. Audio podcasts are recorded on various topics and in a variety of genres, but interviews dominate.
