The process of intensive industrialisation in the West, and later in many other countries around the world, has led to a number of economic and environmental challenges. The main amount of these energy resources is used for heat and power supply to buildings and structures of various purposes, depending on their use. Residential buildings are among the first in the list of such structures.

Examples of designing institutions for the homeless in foreign practice are considered, which are compared with the results of our sociological study of homeless people in Ukraine. A socio-typological scheme for introducing various types of housing for the homeless is proposed based on the integration of housing units with industrial and educational functions.

THE 1960s-70s CITY DISTRICTS IN EVALUATIONS AND PREFERENCES OF THE RESIDENTS

It is considered living conditions,  including yards, residential houses and flats, in morally outdated city districts whichwereconstructed in the 1960s-70s.There are results of the survey which was carried out online and with personal interviewing of the  residents of the districts in June 2019 in Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk and Kolomyia.The most widespread problems of the districtshave been identified as well asthe recommendations on their solving have been made in accordance with their importance.

SPECIFICS OF LIVING ENVIRONMENT DEVELOPMENT IN THE DOWNTOWN AREAS

The article considers features of residential architecture in the downtown areas of large cities. Described are the main problems in the organization of comfortable living conditions and trends of its resolving in modern construction and reconstruction. The article analyzes the establishment of the living environment in the conditions of high urban density and the problem of ensuring standard of living. Today, one of the most intensive construction activity in large cities is situated in the downtown areas.
