Purpose. The main objective of the work is to identify key problems in the functioning of food industry enterprises in Ukraine and the Lviv region, assess the potential of the region for the development of the industry and develop practical recommendations for increasing the efficiency and adaptability of enterprises in the face of economic challenges.
Design. The research used an analytical approach to identify the main problems of the industry, statistical methods to analyze the dynamics of production of various types of products, as well as comparative analysis to assess the prospects for the development of the regional food industry. In addition, the method of expert assessments was used to formulate recommendations.
Findings. The analysis of the dynamics of the production of the main types of food products in the Lviv region allowed to identify both positive and negative trends. In particular, in recent years, there has been an increase in the production of dairy products, in particular fermented milk products and cheeses, as well as poultry meat, which is explained by increased demand among consumers and relatively lower production costs in conditions of economic fluctuations. At the same time, a significant reduction in the production of flour and bakery products has been recorded, which is due to the increase in the price of grain raw materials, a decrease in domestic demand and difficulties with exporting products. There is also a tendency to reduce the production of cattle meat, which is a consequence of high costs for keeping animals, a reduction in livestock and a decrease in the level of state support for the industry. Among the main problems hindering the development of the food industry in the region, one should highlight the disruption of the logistics chains of raw material supply and sales of finished products, limited investment flows that complicate the modernization of production, as well as the increase in the cost of production due to the rise in the price of energy, fuel, and raw materials. An important factor is also insufficient state support for producers, which reduces their competitiveness in both domestic and foreign markets.
Practical implications. Despite the existing challenges, the food industry of Lviv region has significant potential for sustainable development, which can be realized through the introduction of systemic measures at various levels - national, regional and corporate. In particular, an important direction is the development of modern infrastructure, which will allow optimizing logistics processes and reducing transportation costs. In addition, it is relevant to actively expand export markets by adapting products to international standards and certification requirements. Promoting investment, introducing modern technologies and automating production processes will contribute to increasing the efficiency of enterprises.
Originality. The practical value of the study lies in the fact that its results can be used to develop effective management decisions aimed at increasing the competitiveness of the food industry of the Lviv region.
