Проаналізовано основні підходи до визначення бонапартизму. З’ясовано особливості формування та функціонування політичного режиму у Франції у 1799–1814/1815 рр. Виокремлено два етапи функціонування бонапартизму: консульський (1799–1804) та імператорський (1804–1814/1815). Бонапартизм у Франції у 1802–1814/1815 рр. визначено як історичний прототип авторитарного режиму.
